The administrative direction of all fire prevention and suppression services within the purview of the functions of the city shall be vested in the chief of the county fire department. Any duty or obligation delegated to or imposed upon a county fire warden and/or any authority vested in a county fire warden shall be assumed, performed and exercised by the chief of the county fire department. In the performance of any duty or in the exercise of any authority under the provisions of this section, the chief of the county fire department shall act as the head of a department of the city. It is expressly provided that the provisions of this section shall not be construed as the appointment of a county fire warden under the provisions of Section 24008 of the Government Code of the State of California.
